INHOPE
INHOPE, the International Association of Internet Hotlines, coordinates a network of global hotlines which work to remove illegal content from the web.
With a mission to ensure rapid and effective responses to content such as child sexual abuse INHOPE’s work is of the utmost importance.
The Association, with its HQ in the Netherlands, was founded in 1999 to provide internet users with a secure means of anonymously reporting illegal material to local web authorities. As the coordinating body for numerous organisations INHOPE is challenged with harmonising policies and activities across borders and languages and between industry and government bodies.
For Arekibo INHOPE was a truly international project catering for 39 national and regional internet hotlines in 34 countries; as well as technology industry leaders such as Microsoft, Vodafone, Telefonica (O2) and AOL; with support by international law enforcement and government organisations, including, Interpol, Europol, The Council of Europe, The European Commission, and UNESCO.
Security
With its important mandate to prevent and remove illegal content from the web INHOPE tasked Arekibo with creating a web presence which would ensure greater visibility of for the organisation and educate the public about their important work.
The site now provides detailed information about the organisation and its members, including successful cases and latest news as well as press releases for the media and regular newsletters.
Taking into account INHOPE’s public-service ethos, Arekibo worked with them to build a site that furthered their work and the work of each of their member organisations and partners. With the new site visitors now have the means to pass user-submitted reports onto local law enforcement and international agencies. Indeed, in 2010 INHOPE received over 24,000 reports of illegal content alone.
